Fans of Daren “IshowSpeed” Watkins and Kai Cenat were enraged when both creators missed out on the Esports Awards “Streamer of the Year” award, which Samantha “Rivers” Rivera Trevino won. IshowSpeed and Kai Cenat weren’t the only streamers who Rivers beat. Felix “xQc,” Nicholas “Jynxzi,” Cody “Clix,” and Victor “Congrina” also missed out. So, who is Rivers, and how did she win the esports streamer of the year award?
Rivers isn’t an unknown name in the streaming community, and she currently has over 6 million followers on Twitch. She is Mexican, and her audience is mainly Spanish. Therefore, she doesn’t have a massive following in the English-speaking community, which made fans of streamers like IshowSpeed and Kai Cenat question her win.
4 Years and Counting

She began her digital career in 2020, mainly on YouTube and Facebook. Her YouTube channel currently has 4.21 million subscribers, considerably short of Ishow Speed’s 28.4 million or Kai Ceenat’s 9.33 million. However, where Rivers shines is her Twitch account, where she boasts an impressive 6.4 million followers. Although this figure lags behind Kai Cenat’s 13.1 million, it dramatically exceeds Speed’s half-a-million Twitch subscriber count. She streams mainly IRL content.
Sometimes, she also streams games like Overcooked 2, Minecraft, and Grand Theft Auto, none of which were on the roster for the Esports World Cup. It also describes River’s gaming life, as she doesn’t play competitive esports.
Her win was largely due to the strong support from her community, as the award is determined by public votes. Rivers is particularly popular in the Spanish-speaking community, and her dedicated fanbase helped her secure the award for the second year in a row.
Her win of the “Streamer of the Year” award is mainly due to her followership on Twitch, her engagement with her fans, and her consistency in her craft. It isn’t her first time winning the “Streamer of the Year” award; she also won it in 2023. Posting on X (formerly Twitter) after her most recent win, she wrote;
“This award is from my community, who are always active and aware of all the projects, supporting them unconditionally. I hope to one day be as good a creator as the other nominees, whom I admire a lot. Thanks to my people for always supporting me, because of you. I am still here doing what I like, with much love for you, you are awesome and I love you very much.” (translated from Spanish on X)
