To the dismay of many of her fans, particularly those residing in North America, Baldur’s Gate 3 developers have shared a new development for delivering their much-awaited PlayStation 5 physical copies.
Pre-orders from North America were expected to roll out this month. However, due to the production hitches the company ran into, fans who pre-ordered the PS5 North American Deluxe Editions will have to wait a little longer before unboxing their new physical copies.
“Due to production changes outside of our control, we have had to follow certain processes specifically set by production companies when manufacturing the PS5 discs, and unfortunately, the approval for particular regions has taken much longer than expected,” Larian Studios, the independent team behind the award-winning RPG, disclosed on their X/Twitter handle.
Larian further stated that they “expect” all PS5 North American copies to be ready in around 14 days (counting from May 14), followed by another ten days to begin the direct delivery process to the players. The company is also “in talks with the manufacturer to understand whether it is possible to hire extra temporary staff to reduce assembly times.”
Right now, the only positive news is that this delay affects only the PS5 North American copies. In a later update, Larian Studios mentioned that Xbox copies are currently shipping. In contrast, PS5 copies for the EU and Oceania have already left the warehouse and are, at the very least, with the relevant courier services.
Many young esports players took to the official tweet to express their disappointment, suggesting that Larian Studios should have offered a discount, partial refund, or digital access to compensate for the delay. However, other players defended the company, acknowledging that such production issues are often beyond anyone’s control.
Fans still expecting the BG3 Deluxe Edition can find solace in the fact that the RPG was easily one of the breakouts of 2023, so there’s plenty to look forward to. Although the game didn’t make it to the epic Esports World Cup roaster, BG3 boasts a perfect 10/10 rating on Steam and IGN.
