The long wait is over; Team Liquid wins The International 2024 to break their finals jinx. They beat Gaming Gladiators 3-0 in a clean swoop of games to emerge TI champion of the peak of Dota 2 esports tournaments. Last crowned champions in 2017, Team Liquid had reached the final’s last in 2019 only to crack under pressure. There was no such occurrence in last Sunday’s gaming with the team winning comfortably to take home $1,167,052 in prize money.
While the Team Liquid organization won the competition for the second time, this is the first time the current roster has emerged as TI champions.

The Journey To the Final
Enroute to wining the International 2024, Team Liquid was paired in Group D alongside Aurora, Beastcoast, and Team Spirit, who are the defending champions.
They had a relatively poor start to the tournament as they struggled to win the first two group games. However, they turned things around and went on a remarkable upper bracket run in their remaining games. Their only defeat in the group was a 2-0 loss to tournament favourites, Team Spirit as they finished in second spot with a 4-2 record.
The Final: The Curse Is Broken

After a series of challenging encounters with Gaimin Gladiators in past tournaments, Team Liquid finally turned the tables with a decisive 3-0 victory in the grand finals. This win was not just a triumph but a moment of redemption, breaking the so-called “finals curse” that seemed to hover over them in previous years. The grand final, held at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, showcased Team Liquid’s strategic brilliance and sheer dominance, leaving no room for a comeback by the Gladiators.
Speaking after the victory, emotional Team Liquid Coach, William “Blitz” Lee, was full of praise for the players who gave everything throughout the encounter. “I didn’t do anything here, I’m just so glad that people like Zai, Nisha, they took a chance on us and they’re willing to play with us,” he said. He also reflected on the past defeats, saying: “We had so many losses, we had five years without winning anything. We could’ve disbanded 20 different times like people told us to.”
The Prize For Being Champions
The prize money for this spectacular win was significant. Team Liquid walked away with $1,168,478, a reward that reflected their hard work and strategic gameplay throughout the tournament. Their rivals, Gaimin Gladiators, also earned a respectable sum of $363,531 for their second-place finish. These figures underline the high stakes and the intense competition at The International, one of the most prestigious events in the Dota 2 esports calendar.
